The Purple Banana

 A trick to perfectly creamy textured smoothies (without the dairy) is frozen bananas. I use them in almost every smoothie along with many other smoothie bowl extremists out there.

Whether you are in the mood for a nice green smoothie with kale, spinach, and matcha OR something a little more on the berry side, frozen bananas will pair nicely with both and make a great base for your smoothie!

 

If possible, I try to buy organic bananas from our local farmers market. Often times you can find a bunch of them that look over ripened and they won't be able to sell them. However, what's inside that brown peel is so perfect for your smoothie. 

I usually end up getting a whole bulk of them this way for half priced to free!

 

RECIPE: "The Purple Banana"

BLEND

1 Frozen Banana

1-2 Medium Carrots

3/4 cup Frozen Blueberries

1/2 cup Alternative Milk (I used oat milk)

1 tbs. Apple Cider Vinegar (optional)

1 tbs. Chia (optional)

1 small hand full of spinach or kale

A few dashes of each:

Cinnamon 

Ginger

Turmeric

 

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Blend all ingredients very well

2. Pour in a bowl or glass

3. Add toppings

 

TOPPINGS

-Hemp Seeds

-Unsweetened Coconut (I prefer Bob's Red Mill®)

-Raisins

-Almonds (I often blend my almonds after I am done making the smoothie)

-Sliced Banana (optional)
