Today I walked 19,547 steps today exploring outside the city with Susan and her friend Romano. Sabato avventura!
Villa Dei Quintili
We visited the archelogical site of Villa Dei Quintili first and saw the ruins originally from the year 151 A.D.
Susanna's friend Romano was our tour guide for the day. He shared lot's of knowledge of the history of the villa.
The ancient mosaics found here are breathtaking.
It amazed me that something this old is still around.
The small town is famous for it's wild strawberries that grow along side the hills of the volcanic crater, which is now filled with water to create a lake.
The hidden town of Nemi was our next stop.
This place is right out of a fairytale I think. From the locals that sit outside the shops chattering, the brides and grooms newly wedded, the abundant geraniums hanging from nearly every window and the amazing views of the farms and lake below.
This picture of the geraniums is for you, mom.
L'atmosfera della cultura italiana!
Nemi, was so beautiful. I most enjoyed sitting out in the cobblestone courtyard listening to the guitarist and singer play music for all the people listening and eating their porchetta sandwiches and wild strawberry crepes. ....magic
The day ended so nicely in Ciampino where Romano took us to a very local spot hidden in the neighborhoods. This restaurant was filled with families sharing meals together. the tables were filled with pizzas, pastas, and fishes.
